Doug Summers Lead vocal
Doug Summers, originally from Texarkana, TX, is more than just Cursor’s lead vocalist. He’s the lyricist and, ultimately, the voice of the band. He tells stories with every word, and evokes emotion with each melody he creates. Doug sang and played rhythm guitar with his Austin-based band, The Guest, for 14 years before joining Cursor in 2008. Doug drives to San Antonio for weekly rehearsals from his home in Austin, where he lives with his wife and their three cats. He practices, writes, and records original music in his home studio on an almost daily basis. Doug works as a designer of sports posters; a job which combines two more of his passions--graphic design and sports. Otherwise, he can be found running, reading, listening to music, and watching college football. He also spends time surfing eBay for music gear he can’t afford--especially vintage microphones and Neve mixers. He currently sings through a Sennheiser 431 or Shure SM58.
Steve Sanchez Guitar
Steve Sanchez, originally from San Antonio, most singularly represents Cursor’s sound with his command of the perfect guitar tone. His rich sound shreds with grinding distortion yet still cuts through with clarity and definition. Steve has been playing guitar for over 20 years and is an avid fan of jazz and blues. His experience includes teaching guitar lessons as well as earning a bachelor’s degree in music therapy from UIW. He’s played guitar in such bands as The Shady Blades, Ground Zero, Seven and Evolution. Steve is married with two kids and enjoys motorcycling. He works as a school teacher for children with special needs and recently earned his masters degree from OLLU. Steve plays a PRS through a Soldano head and Bogner cabinet.
Ruben Sandoval Bass
Ruben Sandoval, originally from San Antonio, knows his role as bassist for Cursor. He adds the backbone and provides the foundation the songs need. He’s been playing bass for almost 20 years and is very active in the songwriting process. He’s played in bands such as The Shady Blades, Super Human People, and Seven Perfect. His passion is recording and he engineers the Cursor recording sessions from tracking to mixing to mastering. Marketing and promotion round out his skill set. Ruben listens to indie rock and 80’s hair metal. Ruben is currently creating iPhone games as well as enjoying his newly-remodeled home with his wife and daughter. Ruben plays a Fender P-Bass through a Tech21 SansAmp RBI, GK400 head and Hartke 410 and 115 cabs.
Chris Barratachea Drums
Chris Barratachea, originally from San Antonio, is the consummate professional on the drums. Precise to a fault, Chris is a master of tempo and dynamics. Chris has been playing drums for over 20 years and teaches drum/percussion lessons in his spare time. He listens to rock, metal, jazz, Latin jazz, Big Band jazz, orchestral, etc. He also enjoys cycling as often as possible. He’s played in such bands as Mercury Dive, Ology, Seven and various educational chamber ensembles. He makes his living as an elementary music teacher and is a motorcycle enthusiast. He plays an Ayotte 4-piece kit with Zildjian and Sabian cymbals.
